MAHABUBNAGAR, OCT. 15. Over 15 organisations representing different sections of society staged a dharna in front of Collector's office here on Friday under the aegis of anti-Pulichintala project United Forum, demanding a stop to the construction of the Pulichintala project immediately and taking up all the proposed irrigation projects in Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts by giving them utmost prority. The forum convener and Telangana Jana Sabha district president, B. Maddileti, presided over the dharna, while the freedom fighters association district president, Vakil Bheemaiah, inaugurated it. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi district president and Jadcherla MLA, C.Laxma Reddy, who paid a visit to the dharna camp expressed his support to the demands of the united Forum.
Discriminatory
Speakers who represented different organizations came down heavily on the Congress Government for deciding to lay the foundation for the Pulichintala project ignoring the objection raised by the people of Telangana. They said that Telangana region was reeling under severe drought due to non-utilisation of river waters in accordance with the award of the Krishna water dispute tribunal. The Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy Government had ignored the interests of Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar districts and decided to take up Pulichintala project that benefits Coastal Andhra and Krishna delta farmers.
No relevance
The Pulichintala project is a luxury, as it is meant to provide water to the third crop in Krishna delta while the proposed irrigation projects such as Kalwakurthy, Bheema , Nettempad lift irrigation and construction of tunnel for SLBC in Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts are dire necessities as both the districts are reeling under recurring drought conditions, they opined. They said that Pulichintala had lost its relevance with the construction of the Nagarjunasagar project. Representatives of the Karuvu Vyatrieka Porata Samithi, Telangana Writers Forum, Telangana Jana Sabha, APCLC, DTF, Mala Mahanadu and other organizations addressed the dharna. Later, they submitted a memorandum to district Collector, M.Jagadesshwar, that was addressed to the Chief Minister in which they demanded early completion of all the proposed projects in Mahabubnagar district.
