ADILABAD, OCT. 15. The Adilabad MLA, C. Ramchander Reddy, on Friday exhorted people to participate in town development programmes, which would be taken up in a big way in the near future. He said besides the Rs. 68 lakhs released by the State Government for development of Adilabad town an additional Rs. 8 crores would be sanctioned by the HUDCO for the purpose. He was speaking as the chief guest at the orientation and workshop programme on comprehensive municipal action plan for poverty reduction (CMAPP) and critical infrastructure investment plan (CIIP) at the municipal office here. The Andhra Pradesh Urban Services for the Poor (APUSP) sponsored the programme. Talking about the APUSP, the MLA said it was the equivalent of Velugu project in urban areas where slum development would be taken up. He said the APUSP envisaged people's participation by way of proposals for development of their respective localities. Inaugurating the workshop, the Collector, J. Sudha Rani, said APUSP cut down on the scope for corruption because of people's participation. She said there was no dearth of funds, which would be released in proportion to the development, taking place. She said within the next three years a sum of Rs. 6 crores could be utilised for slum development. She urged people concerned to utilise the opportunity for development of slums in town. The Joint Director APUSP, S. Devender Reddy, said the DFID of United Kingdom had done the funding for the urban development programme. The Municipal Chairman, Badan Ganganna, the Commissioner, Jagadeshwar, and others were present.
