TUNGATURTHY (NALGONDA DT.), OCT. 15. The Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajaskehara Reddy, has appealed to the Opposition parties "not to politicise'' the Pulichintala project. Addressing a public meeting here on Friday, he said: "Please don't resort to politics on the issue. I request you to give up such ideas as we are determined to provide a special compensation for the villagers who will be evacuated to pave the way for the construction of the project.'' Dr. Reddy also assured the villagers that their new villages would be transformed into model ones. "The State Government has shouldered the pious responsibility of providing a good rehabilitation package for the ryots,'' he added.
Women's empowerment
Alleging that "the previous Government did not do any good for women'' in the State, the Chief Minister said his Government was trying its best for their empowerment. "Last year the TDP Government had given loans to the tune of Rs.14 crores to the self help groups in the district. But, we are going to give away Rs.100 crores this year. You must see the huge difference,'' he said. Dr.Reddy announced that the Sriramasagar Project (second phase) would be completed in the next couple of years and water would be drawn from Yellampally or Devadula, if it failed to get sufficient inflows. The Chief Minister also inaugurated the girls residential school built at a cost of Rs.1.8 crores and an 132 KV sub-station before proceeding to Tenali. The local MLA, Damodar Reddy, also spoke.
