Drop in humidity

The Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 32. 7 degree Celsius and a minimum of 21.5 degree Celsius on Friday. Humidity dropped from 97 per cent in the morning to 79 per cent in the evening.

Commodity rates

The following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Friday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: Groundnut oil-54, palmolein oil-42, sunflower oil-52, tamarind (flower variety)-40 to 48, tamarind (karipuli variety)-55 to 60, chillies-23 to 28 (AC) and 14 to 18 (non-AC), rice 2716-12, rice super fine (samba masoori)-13 to 14, rice (sona masoori)-15 to 16, black gram-22 and red gram-27 to 32.

Amendment

The employees' and employers' share of the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) contribution would be rounded off to next higher rupee with effect from October 1, 2004, in accordance with a fresh amendment to the Rule 51 of the ESI (Central) Rules, 1950.

In a statement here on Friday, the ESIC joint director, R. Parthasaradhy, said the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment effected the amendment through a notification dated August, 28, 2004.

Orientation

classes

Mathematics, chemistry and physics teachers working in 39 junior colleges under Gurukul institutions being run by the Andhra Pradesh Tribal Welfare Department across the State are being given EAMCET-related orientation classes. The classes, being organised by the management of Gowtham Residential College at Gudavalli, commenced on October 9 and continue till October 18.

A textile showroom, Jeans Corner, was inaugurated at the Besant Road here on Friday. Speaking after the inaugural the showroom proprietor, S. Narayana Rao, said buyers purchasing cloths worth Rs. 100 would get a perfume spray, a table cloth for a purchase of Rs. 200, a wall clock for a Rs. 500 buy, a plastic chair or a steel vessel for a buy of Rs. 750, a camera for purchase of clothes worth Rs. 1000, a pressure cooker for a purchase of 1500, a water filter for clothes worth Rs. 2,000, a 3-jar mixie for a buy of Rs. 3,000 and a portable TV for purchase of Rs. 5,000.
