Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM, OCT. 15. Physically challenged children will enjoy free entry into all the children's parks in the city. The Vice-Chairman of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA), D. Sreenivasulu, announced this while participating in the World White Cane Day celebrations organised by SPACE, a voluntary organisation, in association with the Helen Keller Institute for the Blind and VUDA, at the VUDA Park on Friday. He gave away 100 walking sticks to the visually impaired children. As many as 250 children from SOS Village, Child Foundation of India and the Helen Keller Institute participated.
Traffic awareness
Mr. Sreenivasulu stressed the need to provide facilities and generate traffic awareness among public, so that the physically challenged were saved the trouble while crossing roads. The executive director of Helen Keller Institute for the Blind, D. Hemanth Kumar, who presided, said beep sounds at the signals would help the visually challenged adhere to traffic rules. Ramps should be constructed in all Government offices, the Assistant Director in the Department of Welfare for the Physically Handicapped, Prasada Rao, suggested.
