BANGALORE, OCT. 15. At the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) meeting on Thursday, the name of the former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna was raised when a project to remodel storm-water drains was being discussed. The Congress councillor B.T. Srinivasa Murthy said that when Mr. Krishna was Chief Minister, he had approved of work on a section immediately. "But poor man, avaru hogibittru." The phrase in Kannada has two meanings that the person in question "went away," and that he "passed away." As soon as Mr. Murthy said that, there was uproar in the council. So, he clarified, "I did not mean that Mr. Krishna passed away. All I meant was that he lost power."
