BANGALORE, OCT. 15. The Vivek Nagar police on Wednesday arrested two teenagers on the charge of theft and recovered gold and diamond ornaments and dollars, worth Rs. 2 lakhs in all. The police said Neelanjan Roy Chowdhury, who was living in a rented house, had told his landlord that he was vacating the building and handed over the keys so that the house could be shown to prospective tenants. The landlord's 16-year-old son took the keys and allegedly stole the articles with the help of Ramesh (19) of Yerrappa Garden, the police said.
Eight arrested
The Hebbal police on Wednesday arrested eight accused on murder, dacoity and extortion charges and recovered lethal weapons. The police gave the names of those arrested as Chandrashekar (33), Ravikumar (23) and Rupesh (23) of Vidyaranyapura; Muniraju (33) of Nagashettyhalli; Vijaykumar and Gopi (both 25) of Mathikere; Raghavendra (20) of Somanna Garden; and Alexander (25) of Bhadrappa Extension. The police said the accused were allegedly involved in several offences in Hebbal, Gangammanagudi, Yelahanka Upanagara, Vidyaranyapura, Sanjaynagar, Jalahalli, Vyalikaval, Nandini Layout and Yeshwantpur police station limits.
Gambling charge
The City Crime Branch police on Thursday arrested four persons from a lottery shop on Magadi Road on charges of gambling and recovered Rs. 12,000 in cash, a portable television, a calculator and other articles. The police gave the names of the accused as Anil (33), Gohel Vashram (35), Vagesh (27) and Rajesh (36).
Sentenced
The 6th Fast Track City Civil and Sessions Judge has sentenced seven persons to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 each for assembling to commit dacoity. Those convicted are Prakash (22) of Kamakshipalya, Mallesh (27), Girish (22), Suresh (20), and Ghouse Peer (19), all from Vijayanagar, K. Ramesh (20) of Govindaraja Nagar, and Krishan (21) of Kamakshipalya.
Taken into custody
The Ulsoor Gate police today took into custody a rowdy-sheeter, Kala Pattar alias Ganesh, on the court premises on Nrupatunga Road. According to police, Kala Pattar had come to the court in connection with a case. He saw Somashekar, a realtor, and allegedly assaulted him.
