Naada Habba begins in Belgaum

By Our Staff Correspondent

BELGAUM, OCT. 16. The five-day Naada Habba festivities took off on a high note here on Friday with the city echoing with the strains of traditional musical instruments and drums and pro-Kannada slogans.

The festivities commenced with a colourful procession of Bhuvaneshwari Devi, inaugurated by Suresh Angadi, MP, and Ramesh Kudachi, MLA, on Friday evening.

C.K. Jorapur, general secretary of the utsav samithi, and the Kannada activist and former Mayor, Siddanagouda Patil, were present.

While tableaux made their maiden appearance in the procession, life-size dolls were the cynosure of all eyes. Several folk troupes in traditional costumes danced to the enthralling tunes and scintillating drumbeats.

The procession passed through the main thoroughfares of the city and culminated at Rani Channamma Circle where the leaders hoisted the Kannada Flag and offered floral tributes to Rani Channamma.

During the five-day festivities, cultural programmes and seminars have been organised at a pandal erected on the Kannada Sahitya Bhavan premises.
