Muslim forum hails Maharashtra results
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
OCT. 16.
The All-India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) today said the nation owed a "debt of gratitude" to the people of Maharashtra for upsetting the plan of the Sangh Parivar to reverse the secular trend established in the general elections earlier this year.
They were "satisfied" with the Maharashtra Assembly election results, the AIMMM said. It felicitated the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president, Sharad Pawar, "whose personal participation in the election campaign made the real difference."
In a statement, the AIMM urged the new Government in Maharashtra to address the "genuine grievances and legitimate aspirations of the Muslim community which has rejected the machinations of other parties and stood by the Congress-NCP alliance."
