VISAKHAPATNAM, OCT. 16. Looks, qualifications and age do not matter here to become an anchor, newsreader or a producer. Without any formal qualification, one can even become a station manager. Once the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) gives the green signal, the Centre will allow opening up of frequency modulation (FM) spectrum. This will allow setting up of community radio stations particularly in rural and interior areas where communication is a big hindrance. It can promote local culture and provide a platform to budding artistes to demonstrate their latent talent. ``For setting up a community radio station, an investment of a few thousands of rupees is required. It can be manned by a few individuals, who need not have any formal education. What is required most is the ability to communicate in their language,'' the chief executive officer of Radiophony, Vickram Crishna, told The Hindu . Mr. Crishna, who heads the Mumbai-based company promoting low-cost audio-centric and wireless technologies, said that the Centre should remove restrictions imposed on promotion of wireless technologies. Radiophony provided radio transmission for translation of deliberations into various languages at the World Social Forum held at Mumbai last year and the international conference on women in mining in the city recently.
