`Land reforms key for development'

BHADRACHALAM, OCT. 16. The Tripura Chief Minister, Manik Sarkar, said here today that the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre would not deserve the support of Left parties unless the common minimum programme was implemented.

Addressing the 23rd State-level conference of the All-India Agriculture Workers' Union, he said Left parties should maintain consistent pressure on the Government.

He pointed out that though land reforms was a fundamental issue holding key to development, it could not be included in the common minimum programme. The problems of agriculture workers and the poor would not get solved unless land reforms were implemented in the country. The economic conditions would not change without any significant progress in the implementation of land reforms, he said.
