BHADRACHALAM, OCT. 16. The CPI(M) State secretary, B.V. Raghavulu, has asked the State Government to be transparent in its dealings with the World Bank. Addressing a rally of the Andhra Pradesh Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham, affiliated to the CPI(M), in the temple town today, he sounded a caution to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, against treading the line of his predecessor, N. Chandrababu Naidu. He said his party would extend support to the Government if its dealing with the World Bank were in the interest of the State and its people. The World Bank had a word of advice reportedly on 11 issues to the Government. It would be better if the Government clarified to people in this regard, he observed. People began to entertain doubts about the sincerity of the Government on implementation of election promises ever since it backed out from its commitment to free power.
Land distribution
He demanded that the Government implement Scheduled Areas Regulation 1 of 70 in its true spirit. The regulation should not be utilised for further widening the gap between tribals and non-tribals. The distribution of land to landless should be taken up immediately, he stressed. The State had over 60 lakh acres for distribution. The Government should constitute a separate commission to look into issues such as land distribution and implementation of Regulation 1 of 70. He pointed out that there were no Ministers appointed for important subjects, including Medical and Health.
