HYDERABAD, OCT. 16. The State Cabinet has ratified the new Excise (Toddy) policy guidelines in toto, including the restrictions imposed on supply of toddy beyond 50 km range from the groves. GO Ms.No.767 issued in this regard on September 29 was not welcomed by the twin cities toddy-tapper societies as all 103 shops in the area faced closure due to the new provision. Now, a final blow has been dealt by the Cabinet to shops selling adulterated toddy in the city. Following protest from the members of the 44 societies running these shops the Government decided to provide alternative income-generating activity to people dependent on these toddy shops.
Adulterated toddy
To put an end to the sale of adulterated toddy in the twin cities, the Cabinet put its stamp of approval today.
The Cabinet sub-committee, which studied the issues, had earlier recommended a low rental of Rs. 50 per tree per annum. For the well-being of tappers, preference now shifts to the `tree for tapper' scheme over tappers cooperative societies.
