TIRUMALA, OCT. 16. The TTD Chairman, T. Subbirami Reddy, today denied a report in a section of the media on a minor fire in the Tirumala temple on Friday. The incident was blown out of proportion, he claimed. Addressing mediapersons at Tirumala, Mr. Reddy termed the fire a "minor" and said the fire was doused in 15 minutes. He denied the report that charred curtain pieces had fallen on the main deity. Mr. Reddy produced two of the four archakas who were on duty inside the temple at the time of the mishap. Archaka Venugopal Deekshitulu, narrating the sequence of events, said the fire broke out after a burning wick fell on the used wicks dumped in a corner. The fire was immediately out by temple staff, he said. The TTD Executive Officer, Ajeya Kallam, also denied the presence of any electric wires in the sanctum sanctorum.
