Book on parenting released

NEW DELHI OCT. 16. The Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, M.A.A. Fatmi, released a book on parenting written by Shyama Chona, the Principal of Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram branch, titled "Kaise Saware Bachcho ka Bhavishya" in the Capital this past week.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Fatmi said he was very impressed with the innovative methods and ideas for guiding children given by Ms. Chona. Lauding her work, the Minister said she was a source of inspiration not only for children but also their parents.

Durga Puja celebrations

NEW DELHI OCT. 16. To mark Durga Puja celebrations, the Co-operative Ground Durga Puja Samiti will be organising a grand show for devotees and visitors at Chittaranjan Park's J and K blocks from October 18 to 20. A replica of the Kedarnath temple surrounded by hills and natural flora and fauna designed by Ashish Banerjee will be a special attraction of the show. Cultural programmes, including one by the popular singer Amit Kumar will also be organised on the last day.

The Co-operative Durga Puja Samiti has been winning the "Best Pratima Award" in Delhi for the past two years. The budget for organising this year's celebrations is estimated at Rs.2.2 lakhs. A number of big corporate houses and companies including the TVS group, Reliance, Siemens, Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank, ICICI and ONIDA are likely to put up their stalls there.

New director

for NTPC

NEW DELHI OCT. 16. R. S. Sharma has taken over as Director (Commercial) of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). So far he was Executive Director (Commercial) of the company.

A leading technocrat in the field of power plant management, Mr. Sharma joined NTPC in 1980. Before that he served the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board in various capacities.

School gets quiz awards

NEW DELHI OCT. 16. St. Mark's Senior Secondary Public School, Meera Bagh, in West Delhi, has won the first prize for the maximum participation, highest number of prize winners and best motivating teacher at a quiz competition for students organised by the Ramakrishna Mission. The event was based on "Nivedita of India" which saw the participation of 30,000 students from 96 schools of Delhi. The students of St. Mark's School bagged 31 prizes.

Laughing for good cause

NEW DELHI OCT. 16. Acclaimed `hasya kavi' Surender Sharma and cartoonist Sudhir Tailang participated in the month-long "Ha-Ha-Ha Fest" which began at Shoppers' Stop this past Thursday. The event is being organised to bring a smile on the faces of underprivileged children and is supported by voluntary organisation, Child Relief and You (CRY). The fest is being organised at all the Shoppers' Stop outlets across the country where five lakh "smileys" worth Rs.5 each will be sold and money collected would be donated for projects by CRY.
