. Many of the big names in the running got through, some with huge margins. Leading the pack was the Chief Minister, Sushilkumar Shinde, who defeated his nearest rival, Uday Patil, an independent, from South Solapur, by 29, 852 votes.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Mohite Patil, from Malshiras, won by a whopping 1.32 lakh votes over his nearest rival Ramdas Deshmukh of the BSP who polled 27,831 votes. The Home Minister, R. R. Patil, won from Tasgaon, polling 70,843 votes to defeat rebel candidate Sanjay Patil who got 64,179 votes. The Finance Minister, Jayant Patil, won by 1.20 lakh votes in Walva, while the Minister of State for Home, Kripa Shankar Singh, retained the seat from Santa Cruz in Mumbai.
The former Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, won in Latur, polling 1.47 lakh votes while his BJP rival got 70,000 votes. In Nilanga, in Latur district, Sambhaji Patil of the BJP upset his grandfather and the former Congress Chief Minister, Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar, by polling 66,346 votes. The Speaker, Arun Gujarathi, lost from Chopda to his Shiv Sena rival.
The BJP State president, Gopinath Munde, defeated his NCP rival Phulchand Karad, by polling 92,745 votes in Renapur in Beed district. The Leader of the Opposition, Narayan Rane, won comfortably in Malvan defeating Vijay Sawant of the Congress by polling 63,784 votes.
