HUBLI, OCT. 17. The Karnataka Film Exhibitors' Federation has decided to screen award winning and experimental Kannada films to encourage production of such films. According to the president of the Federation, R.G. Odugowdar, this was being done directly by the Federation and that no middlemen or other distributors were being involved. It was the Federation that would coordinate and there was no pecuniary interest involved. Mr. Odugowdar said that it had been noted that award winning and experimental films often remained without any outlet for exhibition since no distributor would have taken up the responsibility. It was because of this that the Federation had decided to step in with a view to encouraging production of such films in the future, he said. He said that there was no change in the stand already taken by the Federation to screen non-Kannada films from October 19. Asked about the purpose of the meeting convened for Monday in the light the Chief Minister's remarks sometime back, Mr. Odugowdar said that a number of other issues could be discussed at the meeting.
