LONDON, OCT. 17. A senior British official who was closely involved with decision-making in the run-up to the Iraq war has resigned because he reportedly believed that the invasion was illegal. Carne Ross, who was part of Britain's U.N. delegation on Iraq, has confirmed that he resigned "because of the war'' and his "total disillusionment'' with the Government on the issue but declined to comment further on legal advice. Media reports said Mr. Ross believed that the legal case for the invasion was `flawed' as there was `unambiguous' evidence that Iraq had posed no threat at the time of the attack.
