Dharwad
By Our Special Correspondent
DHARWAD, OCT. 17. S.R. Morey, Minister for Municipal Administration, who is the Minister in charge of Dharwad district, has come out in favour of a Corps of Detective (CoD) probe into the alleged irregularities in the disbursement of crop insurance to farmers in the district. Mr. Morey, who on Friday ruled out the possibility of a Corps of Detective probe in the matter on the ground that it would cause delay, announced his revised stand while talking to presspersons here on Saturday. "We cannot avoid a Corps of Detective probe on the ground that it would cause delay,'' Mr. Morey said. He could not resist acceding the demand made with one voice by the people's representatives, Mr. Morey said. Mr. Morey agreed that the case had all the elements of a conspiracy between the insurance personnel and the Government officials. "This must have been planned for the past one year,'' he said. Mr. Morey said Dharwad district had received nearly half of the Rs. 200 crores released for disbursal in the State and all the money had not reached the needy. He had asked the Deputy Commissioner to draft the terms of reference for the probe. He would meet the Chief Minister and convey to him the feelings of the farmers. He expected the issue to come up for discussion at the next meeting of the Cabinet, as a Cabinet nod was required for Corps of Detective probe.
