Total land rights for tribals favoured

VISAKHAPATNAM, OCT. 17. A round table conference, organised by the Institute of Development and Planning Studies in association with Bhaskara Foundation, here on Saturday favoured total rights over land in the tribal areas for tribals. It was stated at the conference that 48 per cent of tribal land was still in the hands of non-tribals who did not have any locus standi as per the existing laws. It wanted the Government to initiate procedures, including land acquisition, to restore tribal rights.

The other measures suggested include a facilitation mechanism to help tribals understand laws relating to land, update of land survey and settlement records to issue new pattas.
