DAVANGERE, OCT. 17. Renukacharya, Honnali MLA, has alleged that many "false cases" had been booked against him at Honnali, on several occasions, at the insistence of the Inspector General of Police, Eastern range, G.M. Hayath. He urged the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, to keep him (Mr. Hayath) under suspension. Speaking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Renukacharya said that he, along with his supporters, had launched an agitation over the hoisting of the Pakistan flag on top of a Darga at Chilur. "Since then, the IGP had been waging a war against me. He has booked many cases without any reason just to demoralise me," the MLA said. He said that nearly 20 cases had been booked against him. Mr. Renukacharya said that he would draw the attention of the Chief Minister to the issue and urge him to initiate suitable action against the IGP. He also said that he would raise the issue in the next session of the Legislative Assembly. To a question he said that he had not manhandled any journalist, as was reported by some newspapers. The MLA said that comprehensive drinking water projects would be commissioned soon for Honnali and Nyamthai at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crores and Rs. 4 crores respectively. He claimed that because of his efforts, the lift irrigation project at Savalanga tank had been sanctioned and the project had helped irrigate more than 1,000 hectares at Honnali. He maintained that the Chief Minister had reportedly assured him of upgrading the Honnali taluk hospital from a 50-bed hospital to a 100-bed hospital.
