COIMBATORE, OCT. 17 . The City Police Commissioner, Ashutosh Shukla, has announced that foreigners who arrived in India on various kinds of visas such as tourist/entry/students should have registered their names in front the Foreigners Registration Officers at the Office of the Commissioners of Police of the district or city concerned, for issue of residential permits under clause 7 (i) of the Foreigners Order, 1984, when they arrive in Tamil Nadu. If they need any extension of stay, they should apply in front of the foreigners registration officer concerned in advance for the collectors to forward it to the Government. Overstaying in the country without the required extension was punishable under section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 with fine and imprisonment for up to five years.
