Chikmagalur coffee beans for Starbucks

BANGALORE: The next time some morning rush customers pour their own coffee from holders set out on a counter at a Starbucks outlet on 195, Broadway, New York, chances are the brew will have been made from Coffee beans grown in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. The international coffee shop chain, Starbucks, will now buy coffee beans, "for the first time," from India. At a price premium of 40 per cent, Starbucks, will buy the beans from Tata Coffee Limited (TCL), a senior Tata executive told reporters here on Monday. The deal was "yet another significant milestone to show how Indian coffee is gaining acceptance in the international market," TCL's Managing Director, Hamid Ashraff, said.
