Last-minute propaganda defeated us: Mayawati

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI. OCT. 18. The Bahujan Samaj Party president, Mayawati, today claimed that her party had been done in by "the last-minute propaganda," of the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party combine. "They kept telling the people that by voting for us they were dividing their votes, which, in turn, would help the Sena-BJP to come to power," she said addressing the media here today.

She said that her party's vote share had gone up, despite not winning a single seat. "During the Lok Sabha polls, we got less than one per cent, during the Assembly elections our vote share went up to 3.06 per cent."

Her party had proved that all the other claimants to the Dalit vote bank in the State counted for nothing. "All the four RPI factions could not even get one per cent votes put together. As for Mr. Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party, a majority of the people have not even heard of it," she claimed.
