THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 18. Last year's semifinalist, M.S. Sharath Lal beat M. Dhiraj 6-0, 6-1 to breeze into the second round in the boy's under-18 category in the 47th K.G. Menon memorial tennis tournament at the TTC courts here on Monday. Sharath also moved into the second round in the under-16 category with a thumping 8-0 win over S. Ramnath in the first round. The result (first round): Boys (under-18): M.S. Sharath Lal bt M. Dhiraj 6-0, 6-1; Rynold Timothy bt M.R. Rajendran 6-0, 6-1; Reejo Varghese bt Vishak V.Gopal 6-2, 7-5; Sekar Satish bt B. Azeeb 6-0, 6-3; N.R. Abhilash bt Asif Taj 6-0, 7-5. Under-16: Swathy Kanth bt Raj Krishnan 8-0; M.S. Sharath Lal bt S.Ramnath 8-0; G. Chandu bt Asif Taj 8-1; N.R. Abhilash bt V.K. Amal 8-1; Shyam Babu bt Vishak V. Gopal 8-5.
