Railway Ministry's denial

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, OCT. 19. The Railway Ministry today denied reports that an attempt was made to trigger a blast to derail the Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express near Sasaram on Sunday. The detonators of very low intensity and in crude form were used for mining ballast.

An official statement clarified that the blast on Sunday last near the railway track close to the Karbandia Station of East Central Railway occurred well after the train passed.

There was no damage to any rail property, including the track, and an investigation was on. The injured were labourers working in a stone quarry near the track, it said.

Reports, quoting police, had said that a bomb exploded while being planted by Maoist Communist Centre activists shortly before the train was to pass through.
