Kher begins defamation proceedings
MUMBAI,
OCT. 19.
The veteran actor, Anupam Kher, today initiated defamation proceedings in a local court against the CPI(M) general secretary, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, for describing him as an "RSS man" and alleging that he had "saffronised" the Censor Board in his capacity as its chairman.
Mr. Kher, who was removed from the post of chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification on October 13, filed a criminal complaint in the court of the Magistrate, C.B. Havelikar.
He appeared before the court with his lawyer Majeed Memon. The court adjourned the matter to November 17 for verification of the complaint.
The actor told reporters outside the court that the dismissal did not matter to him, but he was "deeply hurt" by the sudden move and being labelled an "RSS man."
