ISLAMABAD, OCT. 19. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia, Christina Rocca, today called on the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf and exchanged views on whole range of bilateral relations between the two countries, besides reviewing the progress on the dialogue with India. Ms. Rocca conveyed the U.S. Government's appreciation of Pakistan's role in the fight against terror and underlined the "long term U.S. commitment to its relations with Pakistan," a foreign office statement said.
A routine visit?
Ms. Rocca's visit at a juncture when the U.S. presidential election is just two weeks away triggered speculation in the press that she would press Pakistan to "deliver a high value target" to boost the prospects of the U.S. President, George W. Bush. However, officials in the U.S. embassy here dismissed the reports as baseless.
