NIZAMABAD, OCT. 19. The Minister for Transport, S.Santosh Reddy, said that the helmet rule would be extended across the State in a phased manner. To begin with, it will come into force in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad from November 3. Addressing a function organised by the district police to distribute house site pattas to the police martyrs' families here on Tuesday, he said for the first one month the Government would be lenient towards violators of the orders and prevail on them to use helmets. If they still did not fall in line, punitive action would be initiated against them. Initially, helmets would be made compulsory only to two-wheeler drivers and later on to pillion-riders too, he added.
SP's efforts lauded
Lauding the efforts of the Superintendent of Police, N. Madhusudhan Reddy for taking interest for allotting land to the martyr families, he expressed the hope that peace would prevail with the holding of talks with the naxalites by the Government. The Minister said he would lend a helping hand to the Police Department for the construction of houses for families of police personnel who were killed in action against extremists. The SP said the distribution of house sites to martyrs' families had been pending since a long time in the district.
Model colony
Twentyfive policemen from the home guard to the circle inspector level had laid down their lives in the past 35 years in the district, he said. The families of the Police Department personnel were given the land at Nagaram area on the outskirts of the town and efforts would be made to shape it as a beautiful colony, he said. The Minister and the SP later gave away pattas to the bereaved families.
