Action sought against cable operators

By Our Staff Reporter

TUTICORIN, OCT. 19 . Members of the Tuticorin Cinema Theatre Owners Association today submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Rai Rathore, demanding action against the cable operators who indulge in telecasting films violating the Copyrights Act.

The TCTOA members, who met Mr Rathore at the District Police Office (DPO), pointed out that due to the illegal telecast of latest films, viewers preferred to stay in the luxury of their homes to watch the movies rather than spend ticket fares, leaving the theatres wore deserted look on many occasions. ``As a result, the profit of theatres gets eroded and the owners are finding it difficult to remit the entertainment tax'', they told the police official.

The members asked the SP to take action against the erring cable operators and initiate measures to curb the availability of VCDs in the open market.
