KOCHI, OCT. 19. The mass contact programme of the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, organised by the State Government at the Ernakulam Town Hall, evoked an overwhelming response among the public.
Long queues
Hundreds of people queued up for an audience with the Chief Minister. The police and volunteers had a tough time controlling the complainants who at times tried to break the cordon and surge ahead to meet the Chief Minister. After the Chief Minister affixed his signature on the complaints received from the public, the officials concerned were summoned for seeking their views and exploring ways to solve the complaints. In his inaugural address, Mr. Chandy said the Government wanted to redress the grievances of the people without forcing them to resort to strikes and destruction of public property. Mr. Chandy also directed the officials to follow-up the pending complaints. Later, the Chief Minister distributed financial aid to people whose applications were processed earlier by the district administration. The Chief Minister was assisted by the MLAs, K. Babu, K. Mohammed Ali, V. K. Ibrahimkunju and Loudie Louis, Congress leader Jaison Joseph, District Collector Mohammad Haneesh , Fort Kochi Revenue Divisional Officer Mini Antony, and Additional District Magistrate Johnson K. George.
