Four new High Court judges

KOCHI, OCT. 19. Four District Judges have been appointed as judges of the Kerala High Court. They are: M. N. Krishnan, Kozhikode District Judge, Sasidharan Nambiar, Kerala High Court Registrar, K. P. Balachandran, Thodupuzha District Judge and R. K. Udayabhanu, Assembly Secretary.

The Principal District and Sessions judge, Kozhikode, M. N. Krishnan, was born on February 10, 1949.

Mr. Krishnan hails from Chittilanchery, Alathur taluk in Palakkad district. He graduated from the St. Thomas College, Thrissur and passed the LL.B from the Government Law College, Kozhikode, in 1973.

From 1973 to 1982 he practiced at the Alathur mofussil court under T. V. Balakrishna Iyer.

Mr. Krishnan was selected to the judicial service in 1982 and has served as Munsiff at Parappanangadi and Pattambi. From 1985 he served as Subordinate Judge at Vadakara and Thrissur.

He was promoted District Judge in 1990. He presided over the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal, Alappuzha and was Additional Judge, Palakkad. He served as the Registrar of the Kerala High Court from February 5, 1996 to July 7, 2003 when he was posted as Principal District and Sessions Judge Kozhikode.

He is the son of M. S. Narasimhan and Rajammal. Mr. Krishnan is married to Sharada Krishnan. Their son M. K. Ganesh is a lawyer at the Palakkad bar and daughter Suvasini a XII standard student of the BEM Girls High School here.

M. Sasidharan Nambiar began his practice at the courts in Kasaragod. Joining the judicial service as Munsiff, he became District Judge in 1987. He also worked as Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge (Vigilance) Thiruvananthapuram. He was appointed Registrar of the Kerala High Court in 2002.

K. P. Balachandran, after taking law degree began his practice in Thiruvananthapuram and later joined the judicial service as Munsiff. He became a district judge in 1990. He had worked as district judge at various places. He has worked as Inquiry Commissioner and Special (Vigilance) at Thrissur. He was Thodupuzha district judge since May 17, 2002. He has also served as Sabarimala Special Commissioner.

Born at Koorkkancherry in Thrissur district to P. G. Rukmini and late K. I. Raman, Mr. Udayabhanu began his career as Research Associate at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi.

He was District and Sessions judge at Alappuzha before he became the Secretary to the Kerala Assembly in July 2001. He was selected for a Munsiff's post in 1982 and became Sessions judge in 1990. He served as the Legal Advisor to the State Electricity Board in 1999.

Winner of the Cullen Law Prize in 1970, he had secured first rank in L.L.M. examination from the University of Kerala. He was selected as Parliamentary Fellow of the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, New Delhi, in 1971. He taught at the Government law colleges in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram before becoming the Munsiff.

His wife is Sushama. The couple has two children.
