According to the police, the incident came to light today morning when Santosh Tiwari, a resident of Shiv Vihar in Gokulpuri, found that Sunita, sister-in-law of her relative Veena, and Shravan, Sunita's `lover', were lying dead on the terrace of the house.
Earlier, Santosh's family had gone to attend "Navratri jagran" in the locality on Sunday night. Shravan and Sunita -- both residents of the same village at Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh who had been brought to the Capital by Veena on October 14 -- had also accompanied them to the "jagran".
Around 11-30 p.m., Shravan and Sunita left the place saying that they were going back Santosh's house to sleep. The family members returned in the early hours and went to sleep. They discovered the bodies after they woke up. Both had apparently consumed some poisonous substance.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Shravan, employed in a private firm, and Sunita, a higher secondary pass out, wanted to get married. However, the villagers did not approve of the relationship on the pretext that marriage between residents of the same village was akin to a brother marrying his sister.
However, Shravan and Sunita were not ready to accept the verdict.
Finding no way out, Veena brought Shravan and Sunita to Delhi on October 14 and they stayed at Santosh's house. She was apparently trying to persuade the two to sever their relationship.
Meanwhile, Gokulpuri police have registered a case and are investigating further.
