KOZHIKODE, OCT. 20. The Leader of the Opposition, V.S. Achuthanandan, has said that the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, instead of condemning the attack on the missionaries here had chosen to criticise the functioning of the local self-government institutions and decentralised planning. Mr. Achuthanandan was speaking to presspersons after visiting the Missionaries of Charity at Atholi here today. ``What the Chief Minister did in effect was to divert public attention from a serious crime,'' he said. The Opposition leader said the investigation was not moving in a satisfactory direction.
The VIPs
Asked about his statement that VIPs were involved in the Kiliroor sex racket case, the Opposition leader said that what he meant by VIPs were a former Minister, a present Minister and a police officer. "I meant these three as the VIPs,'' he said. On the Government decision to review its liquor policy, Mr. Achuthanandan said he could comment only after examining the details.
