NEW DELHI, OCT. 20 . The Centre today agreed in principle to Kerala's request to bring 15 more panchayats in two districts and 26 divisions of the Kochi Corporation under the Fishing Export Promotion Zone. The Fisheries Minister, Dominic Presentation, met the Union Commerce Minister, Kamalnath, here and urged him to take steps to include four panchayats in Alappuzha district and 11 panchayats in Ernakulam district besides 26 divisions in the western part of the Kochi Corporation under the Zone. ``The Union Minister agreed in principle to our request,'' Mr. Presentation told reporters after the meeting. He said the Centre has sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for the ongoing work of the fishing harbour in Muthalapozhy in Thiruvananthpuram district. The Rs. 10 crore scheme is partially sponsored by the Centre. Mr. Presentation also met the Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar and requested Centre's assistance for dredging in fishing harbours at nine places. He requested a Rs. 5 crore assistance from the Centre to provide facilities for traditional fishermen in the State. - PTI
