Anirudha slams century as TN beats Karnataka

HYDERABAD, OCT. 20. A fine century by S. Anirudha (110, 15x4, 1x6) helped Tamil Nadu record a 20-run win over Karnataka in the first round of the South Zone under-19 cricket tournament for the M.A. Chidambaram Trophy at the NFC Grounds here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Tamil Nadu scored 231, thanks to Anirudha's stroke-filled century. In reply, Karnataka faltered despite good knocks by Pawan Gargi (65) and B.N. Bharath (52) as the others found the bowling of Naresh (five for 43) too good to handle.

In another match, Andhra surprised host Hyderabad with a 26-run win at the new Uppal Stadium.

The scores: At ECIL: Goa 95 lost to Kerala 99 for one (Abhishek Hegde 68 not out).

At Uppal Ground: Andhra 223 for eight (M.Shashavali 70, V. Sandeep 52) bt Hyderabad 197 (P. Gautam Reddy 66, R.A. Viswanath 43).

At NFC: TNCA 231 (S. Anirudha 110) bt Karnataka 211 (Pawan Gargi 65, B.N. Bharath 52, R. Naresh five for 43).
