HYDERABAD, OCT. 20. It was not the police, but the naxals who had violated ceasefire conditions during the peace talks, the Director-General of Police, S.R. Sukumara, said here on Wednesday. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Sukumara maintained that the snatching of a weapon from a police constable in Vizianagaram and the assault on a constable in the Anantapur meeting were examples of the violation of the ceasefire terms. "Let naxals come out with specific instances where we were at fault," he said, replying to a question on the naxals' charge that the police had violated ceasefire conditions. The DGP said the police had been adhering to the ceasefire norms and would "go back to normal policing" if directed by the Government. "And you know what normal policing means," he added. Reacting to the naxal demand for action against `Nalladandu' or private gangs, he said he did not understand what they meant by the word. If Nalladandu, according to naxals, meant gangs headed by persons like Nayeemuddin or Jadala Nagaraju, the police had already arrested them in connection with criminal cases, he said. "What else do they expect police to do?" he asked.
