Reviewing the functioning of the Urban Development Department at a meeting here, Mr.Chautala said that the scheme had been approved by the Central Government, which had released Rs.6.52 crores as subsidy. And Rs.3.80 crores had already been released to the concerned municipalities for implementation of the scheme. The towns where the scheme had been introduced included Meham, Kalanaur, Rohtak, Gohana, Gannaur, Sonipat, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Siwani, Kaithal, Pundri, Cheeka, Hansi, Fatehabad and Panipat.
He directed the Urban Development Department to provide minimum basic amenities to all people in urban areas and added that there would be no shortage of funds in providing facilities to the people. He also stressed that proper sanitation should be maintained in all towns and the people must get adequate drinking water, electricity, modern health services and traffic-worthy roads.
He also reviewed the implementation of schemes like shifting of dairy units to outskirts of municipal limits, solid waste management and manufacture of bio-fertilizer from urban solid waste. It was informed that 17 places had been identified in 26 towns for the treatment of urban solid waste.
Tenders had been floated to set up such treatment plants in Kaithal, Narnaul, Hodal, Panipat, Yamunanagar and Karnal to manufacture bio-fertilizers.
Regarding shifting of milk dairies, it was informed that the National Capital Region Planning Board had approved the scheme for six towns of Rohtak, Panipat, Sonipat, Gurgaon, Bahadurgarh and Rewari at a cost of Rs.13.07 crores, which included over Rs.9.80 crores as loan. About Rs.7.68 crores had already been released to the concerned municipalities for the implementation of the scheme. And 181 plots had already been allotted to dairy owners in Rohtak and three of them had already set up buildings for their new dairy units.
Similarly, applications for allotment of plots had been received from 69 dairy owners in Panipat. About 330 plots had been carved out in Gurgaon to set up dairy units in the outskirts of the municipality.
The work to shift dairy units was also in progress in other towns. Another similar scheme, approved by HUDCO, was being implemented in Jagadhari,Yamunanagar, Ambala City, Ambala Cantt., Karnal and Hisar at a cost of Rs.18.05 crores.
