Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, OCT. 20. The sky will be partly cloudy on Thursday with a possibility of one or two shower or thundershower in some areas.

On Wednesday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 31.5 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.9. It recorded only a trace of rainfall. Meenambakkam recorded a maximum of 30.9 degree Celsius and a minimum of 23.4. It received a rainfall of 0.1 mm in the 12 hours ending 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Humidity recorded at 8.30 p.m. today was 87 and 86 per cent.

Eye screening

The Rajan Eye Care Hospital along with the Lions Club of Mylai Abhilasha conducted school eye screening camp at the Corporation Middle School, Aminjikarai recently.

Over 500 students were screened for ailments by a team of doctors. Ten were referred for cataract surgery at the Hospital. Free medicines and spectacles were given to more than 60 patients.

Alumni meet

The Chennai Chapter of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS, Pilani) Alumni Association will organise an alumni get-together on Saturday, November 6 at Hotel Trident-Hilton, Meenambakkam from 6.30 p.m. onwards.

Seminar

Nutrition India will conduct a half-day seminar based on registration on `Nutrition and Heart Disease'.

Blood donation

The Indian Bank, Asiad Colony branch in association with the Asiad Colony Flat Owners Association and Rotary Club of Madras Mid Town organised a blood donation camp where 61 persons of the Colony donated blood.

D. Bhuthalingam, deputy general manager, Chennai North, inaugurated the blood camp. The blood was given to Jeevan Blood Bank.

Convocation

The T.S. Narayanaswami College of Arts and Science celebrated its fourth convocation. S.V. Chittibabu, former vice-chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University delivered the convocation address and gave away the degree certificates.

Camp

The Singhvi Charitable Trust conducted a free eye and dental camp at Pennalurpettai, Tiruvallur district recently.

More than 400 persons were screened and 129 were given free medicines for eye-related problems. Two hundred and eighty spectacles were distributed free and 141 persons were screened for dental ailments and distributed free medicines.
