KTDC plans trip to Sabarimala

KOCHI, OCT. 20. The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) will organise conducted tours for Sabarimala pilgrims from Ernakulam from November 17. Seats for the trip can be booked at the tourist reception centre of the KTDC at Shanmugham road. More details can be obtained from the tourist reception counter or from Ph: 2353234, 2382199.

Iodine deficiency day

The Food and Nutrition Board under the Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit of the Government of India will observe global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Day tomorrow. An awareness camp on the importance of iodine in diet will be conducted at Anganwadi centres at Illickal and Kumbalanghi in this connection.

Panels formed

The Kochi Corporation today formed various sub-committees for the smooth conduct of the World Mayor's Conference to be held in Kochi in January next. The committees were formed at the first meeting of the reception committee that was formed earlier. The organisers expect delegates from within and outside the country at the conference.

Complaints

The District Collector, Mohammad Hanish, today directed officials of various Government departments to furnish replies to the complaints received by the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, at the mass contact programme before November 5. The Collector directed the officials to submit copies of the complaints and its replies to him.

Inaugurated

The postgraduate departments of biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology and microbiology of Mar Athanasius College, Kothamangalam, were inaugurated today. The Professor emeritus of the Department of Microbiology, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, K.P. Gopinathan, inaugurated the departments at the students' centre of the college.

Arrested

The South police today arrested Danaseelan of Paravur for allegedly duping a private bank of Rs. 20 lakhs and unauthorisedly withdrawing Rs. 6 lakhs from the account of a teacher from Kakkanad. The police case is that the accused used stolen cheque leaves for withdrawing money from the account of the teacher. The accused is wanted in 30 other cases of fraud. He would be presented in a court tomorrow.
