HYDERABAD, OCT. 21. Host Vignan Prabodhananda Prashanthi Niketan (VPPN) retained the CBSE Schools South Zone hockey tournament under-19 title for the third consecutive year defeating Atomic Energy Central School (Mumbai) 6-0 in the final here today. Sainik School of Bijapur won the under-14 title defeating Vignan's PPPN 4-0 with Ravi (2), Abhishek and Shravan with one goal each being the scorers. St. Lawrence (Ooty) bagged a double winning the girls' under-14 and the under-19 titles. In the under-14 final, it got the better of Vignan's PPN 3-0 with Namrata (2) and Trinetra (1) being the scorers. In the under-19 girls' final, they downed Hyderabad Public School 8-0 with Geetha (4), Ruth (2) and Archana and Deepthi scoring one goal each. Special prizes were given to P. Shravan Kumar of Vignan's PPN for being the highest scorer with, M. Vijayalakshmi `best player' in girls' section, Geetha highest scorer in the under-19 category, Laxmi Pooja Reddy (best goal-keeper in under-14) and Swetha (best goal-keeper in under-19). The winners have qualified for the National CBSE schools championships to be held in Delhi later this year. Former Olympian M.K. Kaushik gave away the prizes.
