ADILABAD, OCT. 23. An Armed Reserve constable on guard duty at the sub-treasury office at Wankidi in Adilabad district reportedly deserted his post with two .303 rifles and 100 live rounds in the wee hours of Saturday. Ramlingu was said to have taken the step owing to family problems. The Superintendent of Police (SP), Kripa Nanda Tripathi Ujela, said Ramlingu was on duty between midnight and 2 a.m. His absence was noticed by the guard who was to relieve him when he was not roused from sleep for change of duty. At 4 a.m., the guard woke up only to find Ramlingu missing along with the guns and ammunition. He immediately alerted his superiors. A search was launched for the constable. It was learnt that Ramlingu, who has two wives, had been facing problems for quite some time. His daughter, married to an APSP constable, was divorced. His son-in-law was reportedly removed from service. The SP said Ramlingu's son-in-law was given protection, anticipating threat to his life.
