ALAPPUZHA, OCT. 23. St. Joseph's HSS (Thiruvananthapuram), St. Joseph's HSS (Pulincunnoo), GMHSS (Kozhikode) and G.V. Raja Sports School (Thiruvananthapuram) moved into the semifinals in boy's section in the fifth Porukara Trophy all-Kerala inter-school basketball tournament at the Porukara Junior College and Central School floodlit courts here on Saturday. St. Joseph's (Tvm) defeated SBHSS (Changanasherry) 45-25 while St. Joseph's (Pulincunnoo) beat Girideepam Bethany, Kottayam 53-24 in the quaterfinals. G.V. Raja Sports School had it easy over St. John's, winning 42-25 while GMHSS, Kozhikode, made grade with a narrow 64-59 win over St. Ephrem's (Mannanam). In girl's section, Mount Carmel scored an impressive 41-18 win over GVHSS (Kannur) in the opening match of the semifinal league. The results: Boys (quarterfinals): St. Joseph's HSS, Thiruvnanthapuram, 45 (Bibin Chacko 19) bt SBHSS, Changanassery, 24; St. Joseph's HSS, Pulincunnoo, 53 (Rahul 19) bt Girideepam Bethany, Kottayam, 24; GMHSS, Kozhikode, 64 (V. Vijobi 24) bt St. Ephrem's Mannanam 59 (Albin 25); G.V. Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram, 42 bt St. John's, Thiruvananthapuram, 25. Girls (quarterfinals): Mount Carmel, Kottayam, 39 bt Kristu Jyothi, Changanassery, 19; Brennen HSS, Thalassery, 48 (G. Reshma 11) bt SN Trust HSS, Kollam, 45 (V.G. Sunimol 20). Semifinal (league): Mount Carmel, Kottayam, 41 bt GVHSS, Kannur, 18.
