Parvathy takes women's title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 23. Parvathy Vijayan won the women's singles title in the 47th K.G. Menon memorial State-ranking tennis tournament at the TTC courts here on Saturday.

Parvathy overcame a spirited challenge from Nisa Nair before winning 7-6, 6-3. Mani brothers , Binu and Binoj, took the doubles title defeating Ray Karan and Vijikumar 6-1, 6-4 in the final.

Rynold Timothy completed a double in the boys' under-18 category. He won the singles title with a 6-4, 6-2 win over A. Anand. Rynold took the doubles title along with Sarath Lal beating A. Anand and S.L. Arun 6-3, 4-1 in the final.

The results:

Men's doubles (final): Binu Mani/Binoj Mani bt Ray Karan/Vijikumar 6-1, 6-4. Semifinals: Binu Mani/Binoj Mani bt A. Vijayakumar/Sikkander Raghunath 6-0, 1-0 (conceded); Ray Karan/Viji Kumar bt Biju Mani/Cecil George 6-4, 6-4.

Boys under-18 singles (final): Rynold Timothy bt A. Anand 6-4, 6-2. Doubles: Rynold Timothy/Sarath Lal bt A. Anand/S.L. Arun 6-3, 4-1 (conceded).

Boys' under-16 singles (final): A. Anand bt M.S. Sarath Lal 6-2, 6-2.

Women's singles (final): Parvathy Vijayan bt Nisha Nair 7-6, 6-3.
