Misty morning forecast

NEW DELHI OCT. 23. The Capital's citizens will wake up to a misty morning on Sunday, the weatherman has forecast. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius respectively.

While at Safdarjung the maximum temperature recorded on Saturday was 31.0 degrees Celsius and the minimum was 16.7 degrees Celsius, the maximum and minimum temperatures at Palam was 30.2 degrees Celsius and 16.0 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum relative humidity at Safdarjung and Palam was 86 per cent and 85 per cent respectively. While the minimum relative humidity at these two places was 27 per cent and 28 per cent respectively.

`Torture' in custody

NEW DELHI OCT. 23. In an alleged case of police brutality, a man was badly beaten up and tortured in a North Delhi police station. Following an inquiry, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station and a sub-inspector have been shifted to police lines, while another sub-inspector has been suspended.

As per the allegation, there was a dispute over property between two brothers living at Bara Hindu Rao in North Delhi. A few days ago, the two parties had a quarrel following which the police were informed. Both the parties accused each other of initiating the fight and causing injuries. Accordingly, cross complaints were lodged at Bara Hindu Rao police station.

One of the brothers was taken to the police station and was allegedly subjected to beating and torture. The victim was inflicted injuries in his private parts also, it was alleged. After the man's condition worsened, the policemen reportedly dropped him back home.

The victim then approached a senior officer and narrated the incident following which an inquiry was initiated. The inquiry concluded that the police officers named in the complaint were guilty. The officer then informed his superiors at the district level and above.

Senior police officials then reached the police station on Thursday and suspended one of the sub-inspectors, Harish, with immediate effect.
