CHENNAI, OCT. 23. Commuters in and around Parrys were put to great hardship around noon today with the crew of Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) taking different routes in the absence of regulation or supervision by the Corporation authorities. At one point the situation turned ugly with a conductor of a bus and a passenger almost coming to blows because of the confusion. Enquiries with a senior MTC official revealed that buses were not allowed on NSC Bose Road due to the "congestion" there in view of Pooja festivities. Hence the services coming from Central side were diverted along Nurses' quarters-Frazer Bridge Road to reach Esplanade. A "motorcycle-borne regulator" was also posted at the Frazer Bridge Road-Evening Bazaar Road junction. While some services went along the regular route by taking NSC Bose Road to reach Parrys Corner, a few other drivers took Frazer Bridge Road. A look around showed no regulators. As some of the buses skipped Flower Bazaar police station bus stop, a passenger picked up a quarrel with the conductor of one bus. At one stage, the conductor rose from his seat and rushed menacingly towards the passenger who alighted. However, the passenger was whisked away by others. The passenger only wanted to know why the bus did not take the NSC Bose Road, as the other services. In the return direction too (from Parrys) some services came along Frazer Bridge Road and while others used NSC Bose Road, leading to confusion among passengers.
