MYSORE, OCT. 24. Peeved over the shabby treatment given to them by the Dasara Cultural Committee, a large number of artistes, who imparted a dash of colour to the Jumboo Savari, staged a protest here on Sunday. The folk artistes, who were roped in from all over the State, were lodged in the Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry. But the artistes were allegedly not paid remuneration on Sunday till the time of their departure. It is learnt that the folk artistes were oblivious of the remuneration to be paid for their participation. As if adding insult to injury, the committee members did not pay them on time and insulted them by offering cash in a take-it-or-leave-it manner. There were 120 troupes from different parts of the State. Of these, only 20 were paid on time after the conclusion of the procession on Sunday. The rest were left in the lurch, forcing the artistes to stage a protest at Metropole Circle. Even the food supplied in packets was stale.
