MYSORE, OCT. 24. Odanadi Seva Samsthe, Mysore, an organisation engaged in the rehabilitation of destitute women and children, has offered to provide education and rehabilitation to two daughters of the brigand Veerappan who was killed in an encounter recently. Shaialaj Gopinath, Odanadi's Mysore district Co-ordinator, on Sunday criticised the manner in which the slain outlaw's children had been treated by schools in Tamil Nadu. "Odanadi criticises the manner in which his innocent children had been thrown out of the school," she said. Emphasising the need for nurturing a good opinion about society in the children's minds, lest they turn against society, Ms. Shailaja said Odanadi extended its moral support to children who had been victims of circumstances. The innocent children should not suffer because of Veerappan's evil doings, she said. Odanadi expressed relief over the killing of the brigand. Stanley, a functionary of the organisation, told The Hindu that Odanadi had kept the proposal to provide education and economic empowerment to Veerappan's children before his wife Muthulakshmi. "I have kept the offer before her," Mr. Stanley said. Although she did not turn down the offer immediately, Mr. Stanley said Muthulakshmi expressed doubts over the safety of her children in Karnataka in the midst of its police. "However, we have assured them that no harm will befall the children if they are under Odanadi's shelter," Mr. Stanley said. If Muthulakshmi agreed, Veerappan's children would be taught alongside 40 others at Odanadi's primary and middle school. "After passing the middle school, we will admit them to mainstream high school and colleges. Twenty-two of our wards are going to high school and 12 to colleges," he added.
