MYSORE, OCT. 24. Even as the heat and dust kicked up by the colourful Dasara festival, which concluded here on Saturday, is settling down, a media delegation from the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries arrived here on Sunday. The tourism industry is attaching immense significance to the media delegation's visit in view of the likely boost "brand Mysore" will get as a tourist destination in international circuit. "The ASEAN delegation's visit is important in view of the tourism promotional initiatives to project Mysore as an international destination," according to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysore. The 19-member delegation includes media representatives from Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. The delegation visited Lalith Mahal Palace Hotel, Chamundi Hills, Mysore Palace, Jaganmohan Palace, St. Philomena's Church and Tipu Sultan's Palace in Srirangapatna before returning to Bangalore in the evening. The Union Ministry of External Affairs representative, Mohan Chandran, and the ASEAN Secretariat representative, Septania Hanawati, accompanied the delegation during its visit. The ASEAN media team's visit comes even before the Dasara festivities, which ended with a scintillating torchlight parade on Saturday, could die down. Thousands of tourists had descended on Mysore during the Dasara to savour the festivities, which included illumination of the Mysore Palace and staging of cultural as well as modern music concerts, besides heritage walks and adventure sports. The ASEAN media delegation's visit closely follows the visit of a few high-profile travel writers and representatives of tourism companies from European countries.
