VISAKHAPATNAM, OCT. 24. The State Government has sanctioned Rs.1,350 crores for the Polavaram left canal, the Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konathala Ramakrishna, said here on Sunday. Talking to reporters, he said that the revised estimates for the project might work out to about Rs.1,900 crores, which would be met. With the Godavari water project now able to meet the drinking water needs of Visakhapatnam city, the left canal would help cater to the irrigation needs of the district, he said. ``We will have 25 tmcft of water to meet the drinking water and industrial needs of Visakhapatnam district. There would be absolutely no shortage of water hereafter even for industries. We will develop a coastal corridor between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam where industries would come up,'' he said.
IT giants invited
Major IT players Wipro and Satyam were invited by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to set up units between Visakhapatnam and Bheemunipatnam where some land had been earmarked for the IT industry, he revealed.
